![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Did you bring any of the DLC weapons? These are all specifically designed to deal with the Rulers, either with free actions (which don't trigger Ruler Reactions) or having a high chance to stun or otherwise disable them for a few Reactions.Overwatch shots do not trigger Ruler Reactions and are a good way to deal a ton of damage at once (provided you hit your shots). Do you have a scout (Phantom Ranger or Reaper)? If so, you can use them to find the Ruler first and set the rest of your squad up on Overwatch to catch it early.Whether you can actually do that is dependent on a couple of factors though: The Rulers aren't meant to be killed in one engagement, they will retreat after taking enough damage (roughly one third of their health). Unless you're playing Ironman and you strongly suspect you'll be squad wiped, you should give it your best shot. Ignoring that confusion, to answer your questions: As explained, the only way to activate Alien Rulers is either through the unique story mission or finding them at an ADVENT Facility. Having this as your first encounter with the Viper King should be impossible in unmodded gameplay. This is a mission where I'm supposed to interrupt/steal from a supply line and junk and there's no timer (whose dlc I was 99% sure I disabled and am still somewhat certain it's a glitch or something). It's only if you completely uncheck Alien Hunters in the list of DLC on campaign start that the DLC will be completely disabled.Introductory mission which then activates the Rulers. If you choose to disable "integrated" DLC then you'll instead get the vanilla XCOM 2 experience. The default is "integrated" DLC, which has the Rulers randomly guarding ADVENT Blacksites and once encountered will then start randomly appearing in missions. In War of the Chosen you have three options. In vanilla XCOM 2, no War of the Chosen, if you disable Alien Hunters then you won't get the special introductory mission or the Alien Rulers appearing.TLDR: I found a viper king pretty early on on my first XCOM 2 playthrough and don't know how to deal with it but I can run away I think. Should I just retreat? This is a mission where I'm supposed to interrupt/steal from a supply line and junk and there's no timer, and as far as I know there aren't any downsides to retreating besides not getting the rewards but I'd still rather not retreat if possible. None of my soldiers are damaged yet but I have a feeling that enemy will decimate my squad since no one has more than their second skill after their basic skill unlocked. This is my first XCOM 2 playthrough and I am still very early on in the game (I haven't explored the blacksite yet and literally in this mission used the skulljack for the first time, and was unpleasantly surprised by the codex thing) and for the most part I only have basic equipment (no advanced armor or weapons but I do have a poison round and a medkit, and I did unlock the SPARK mech thingy). So as the title would suggest I just ran across a viper king (whose dlc I was 99% sure I disabled and am still somewhat certain it's a glitch or something). ![]()
